Hades (Άδης or Ἀΐδας; Hadēs, originally Ἅιδης) was the ruler of the underworld, a.k.a. the God of Hell.

The name makes it quite obvious for what purpose the instrument is made. No other trumpet available today plays easier or slots better between the high and double high C than this horn. Add a huge sound, a tremendous projection and sizzle and it’s clear that it’s not the first instrument you think about when playing the Haydn or Hummel concertos. On the other hand, when you’re a lead trumpet player in a big band or rock band, you cannot ignore it. It works amazingly well with a microphone and the pick up is very good even when you’re not playing directly in front of the mike.
